Beware of ignoring them 4 parts of the body that should be applied to "sunscreen"

Dermatologists warn that many people forget to apply sunscreen to 4 key parts of the body that are at risk of skin cancer.

Dr. Nira Nathan, a Harvard-trained skin cancer surgeon, shared a TikTok video that has been viewed more than 680,000 times, saying she removes cancer from “the backs of the hands, ears, scalp, and neck” every day.

"Most people put sunscreen on their face, but they don't realize they need to put it on those areas," Nathan told Newsweek.

Dr. David Kim, a New York City-based dermatologist, agrees, saying the number one place people ignore is the ears, followed by the scalp and hands.

He revealed that while he was completing his medical studies, he regularly found skin cancers in the ears of outdoor athletes who exercised without using sunscreen.

Skin cancer can occur on any part of the body, even spots not exposed to the sun.

Repeated, direct exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun, which damage cells, dramatically increases the likelihood of developing a cancer-causing mutation.

It is worth noting that more than 80% of skin cancer cases are caused by exposure to sunlight, according to global cancer research.

About 13% of skin cancers occur on the scalp, according to a 2018 study from Paracelsus Medical University in Austria.

Common symptoms of skin cancer include: a discolored area of skin, an itchy or bleeding spot, a pink lump with a hard surface and a sore that doesn't go away, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
