Best Products to Restore Liver Health

Weight loss specialist Dr. Pavel Isanbayev spoke about the best products that normalize liver function faster and without harming the body.

An unhealthy liver creates many other problems, the specialist told RIA Novosti. Inactivity, chronic stress, processed foods, excessive alcohol consumption and medications force the liver to work harder. The effect of one-time detoxification measures is positive, but temporary compared to healthy eating habits.

“By adding foods rich in taurine (a derivative of the amino acid cysteine) to the diet, we help the liver synthesize bile acids that are involved in the digestion of fats and help remove excess cholesterol, thus improving the level of lipids in the blood. It also has the potential to combat fatty liver disease, especially alcoholic liver disease,” he says.

According to him, seafood, poultry and red meat contain high levels of taurine. Plant foods contain much less. Therefore, those who follow a vegetarian diet should include this beneficial substance in their diet as a nutritional supplement.

“Another effective way to support your liver is to eat foods rich in betaine (also known as trimethylglycine). This compound is a powerful hepatoprotector, protecting liver cells from both acute and chronic damage, such as alcohol, medications, and pesticides. Studies have shown that betaine has the ability to combat fatty liver disease, which is often caused by excessive alcohol consumption, obesity, diabetes, and being overweight,” he says.

Foods rich in betaine include wheat bran, quinoa, beets, spinach, rye, and sweet potatoes, as well as turkey breast, veal, and beef.

He points out that coffee also protects the liver. According to scientific studies, coffee lovers effectively protect themselves from many diseases, including cirrhosis and fatty hepatitis, and slow down the progression of the changes that occur. Coffee also reduces the risk of cancer.

"But most people should drink coffee in moderation, with no more than 400 milligrams of caffeine (2-3 cups of coffee) per day," he says.
