An ongoing tragedy Gazans living in the ruins of their homes

The official Palestinian news agency published a report on Friday highlighting the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as a result of the ongoing war waged by Israel since October 2023.

The agency said that Palestinians in the destroyed Shujaiya neighborhood are facing difficulties in surviving amid the lack of basic services, food scarcity, water shortage crisis, and the destruction of infrastructure, in light of the ongoing war of extermination waged by the Israeli army for the tenth month.

Wafa added that hundreds of thousands of citizens in the northern Gaza Strip suffer from extreme difficulty in obtaining potable water, as they travel long distances to obtain a few liters, noting that the residents of the north are rationing their use of drinking water for fear of its interruption and not obtaining new quantities.

The residents of the Gaza Strip and the northern Gaza Strip are also facing a worsening food shortage crisis that threatens their lives due to the ongoing war, and the accompanying tightening of the siege and the prevention or rationing of the entry of food supplies that were already limited.

In this context, the agency refers to the ground operation carried out by the Israeli army in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood between June 28 and July 10, 2024, which resulted in the killing and wounding of hundreds of Palestinians and caused massive destruction, making the neighborhood "a disaster area unfit for living."

The agency reports that during their displacement, Palestinians are forced to seek refuge in the homes of their relatives or acquaintances, and some set up tents in the streets, schools or other places such as cemeteries, under difficult humanitarian conditions where there is no sufficient water or food, and diseases spread.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said that 9 out of 10 people in the Strip, which has a population of about 2.3 million, have been forcibly displaced.

She added that displaced families are looking for shelter wherever they can, whether in crowded schools, destroyed buildings, modest tents on the sand or amid piles of garbage.

She stressed that these places are not safe and people no longer have anywhere to go.

Since October 7, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in more than 129,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and deadly famine.

Israel continues its war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolution to stop it immediately and the International Court of Justice's orders to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
