Algeria: Extensive and comprehensive recall of carcinogenic women's clothing

The Algerian newspaper "Al-Shorouk" said that the Directorate of Commerce of the state of Oran, in coordination with the police services for district security, has begun a wide and comprehensive withdrawal of carcinogenic women's clothing.

She reported that the Directorate of Commerce in the state of Oran has begun a wide and comprehensive withdrawal of all products found on display, marketed, distributed and sold by a Chinese brand specializing in supplying women's clothing, shoes and decorative accessories via the Internet, which have been proven by Algerian and international police laboratories to contain toxic and illegal substances that, when inhaled or in direct contact with the skin, can cause cancer, asthma and several other serious diseases.

In a preliminary assessment based on confirmed information received by the security services of the Bir El Djir district, indicating that this type of fashion is widely circulated through stores operating in the region in the field of selling imported women's clothing at attractive prices, the police, together with the Consumer Protection and Fraud Suppression Unit of the Commercial Directorate at the regional level, were able to seize clothing that actually bears the suspicious specifications at a shopping center frequented by many in the Bir El Djir area.

During the operation, the authorities seized 139 units, which were dresses of various sizes and models, woven with fibres containing a high percentage of chemicals harmful to health.

According to the Algerian newspaper, it became clear that the owner of the center had allocated a special wing to display the brand’s low-priced products to attract customers.
