Algeria's representative to the United Nations, Amar Benjamaa, called for opening all border crossings, including the Rafah crossing, stressing that "there is no point in humanitarian measures in the Gaza Strip without a ceasefire."
In his speech to the Security Council, the Algerian representative to the United Nations stressed the necessity of "opening all border crossings to Gaza and forming an exclusive Egyptian-Palestinian administration for the Rafah crossing ."
He explained that "humanitarian measures in the Gaza Strip are useless without a ceasefire, and the brutal Israeli tactics used in Gaza can only be described as genocide and a war crime."
He expressed his country's rejection of "any attempt to absolve Israel of responsibility for the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and place the blame on the United Nations agencies," stressing that "all humanitarian measures in Gaza are useless without a ceasefire."
He added: "We must not allow starvation to be used as a tool of war in the Gaza Strip, and the Security Council must confront the policy of the Zionist occupation aimed at undermining UNRWA and restricting its work."
He stressed the need to deploy observers in Rafah to ensure the easy entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and to launch a large-scale vaccination campaign by the World Health Organization to prevent the spread of polio in Gaza. He stressed the need to move urgently to confront the health threats facing the people of Gaza.
