Algeria: Arrest of 10 elements financing terrorist groups and thwarting attempts to smuggle drugs from Morocco

During the period from July 17 to 23, Algerian army units carried out several security operations, arrested 10 elements supporting terrorism, and thwarted the smuggling of more than 8 quintals of drugs from Morocco.

According to the operational report of the Algerian Ministry of National Defense, various units of the National People's Army were able to "arrest 10 elements supporting terrorist groups during separate operations across the national territory. A bandit named L. Atto was also arrested in possession of an SVD sniper rifle, an ammunition magazine and 74 bullets."

Joint army detachments, in coordination with various security services, arrested 24 drug dealers during operations across military regions. Attempts to smuggle 8 quintals and 22 kilograms of processed cannabis across the border with Morocco were thwarted, while 1,134 kilograms of cocaine and 27,257 hallucinogenic tablets were seized.

On the other hand, detachments of the National People's Army in Illizi, Bordj Badji Mokhtar and In Salah arrested 61 people and seized 8 vehicles, 71 electric generators and 37 jackhammers, in addition to quantities of a mixture of raw gold, stones and explosives, blasting equipment and equipment used in illegal gold prospecting operations.

Four other people were also arrested and an automatic pistol, 8 hunting rifles, 17 bullets, 259 cartridges, 43,502 liters of fuel and 10.6 tons of food intended for smuggling were seized during separate operations across the country.

The Coast Guard was able to thwart illegal immigration attempts by 189 people on board traditional boats, while 268 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested.
