Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, ranked third in the world, won the Wimbledon tennis title for the second year in a row, after defeating Serbian Novak Djokovic, ranked second, today, Sunday, in a repeat of last year's final.
Alcaraz entered the match strongly and won the first set 6-2.
The scene did not change in the second set, which ended with the same result, 6-2, in favor of the Spaniard as well.
The competition intensified in the third set, and Alcaraz was close to winning the match after breaking Djokovic's serve in the ninth game to make the score 5-4, but the Serb rose up and broke the Spaniard's serve and forced a tie in the set 6-6, before Alcaraz won the match in his favor with a score of 7-4 in the break of serve.
The young Spaniard (21 years old) repeated the 2023 scenario when he defeated his veteran Serbian rival (37 years old) in the final, but in five sets, raising his tally to four Grand Slam titles, while preventing Djokovic from equaling the Swiss Roger Federer's record as the player who won the most Wimbledon titles with eight titles.
The Serb also failed to break the absolute record for the number of major titles in the amateur and professional eras, which he shares with Australian Margaret Court (24 each).
