ABC News reported that US President Joe Biden's election campaign funds are running out, prompting his deputy Kamala Harris to call donors on Friday, but she returned empty-handed.
According to the network, Biden's campaign funds are running out, and in order to secure new funds, his deputy Kamala Harris contacted major Democratic donors on Friday, but the conversation "went badly" because the donors were angry and insisted that the White House president withdraw from the election race.
The agency quoted an unnamed White House journalist as saying that Biden is deeply disappointed with his allies and close friends who no longer believe he can defeat his Republican rival Donald Trump in the presidential election next November, and are now distancing themselves from him and calling on him to step down.
Thirty-seven members of the Democratic Party have publicly called on Biden to withdraw from the election race, including his former ally in the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.
ABC News reported that Pelosi expects Biden to make a serious decision soon about the possibility of withdrawing from the election race.
In addition to Pelosi, Biden was also contacted by a number of Democratic leaders in the Senate and House, including Chuck Schumer and Hakim Jeffries, who warned him that his defeat in the battle against Trump would undermine Democrats' position on Capitol Hill.
As internal criticism of Biden's disastrous performance in the Democratic Party grows, American politicians and journalists say Biden may be replaced by a more qualified candidate, suggesting that his running mate Kamala Harris could be the replacement.
Despite repeated calls for Biden to withdraw his nomination from Democrats in Congress as well as Democratic Party donors, the current president says he does not intend or plan to withdraw from the presidential race, but he confirmed that Harris is fully prepared to become president of the country, if he is unable to complete his second presidential term.
NBC News reported that a fourth Democratic senator publicly called on President Joe Biden to withdraw from the election race.
Axios reported earlier Thursday that Biden may announce his withdrawal from the election race on July 20 and 21 due to increasing pressure from congressional leaders, Democratic Party members and friends.
