Potato lovers can enjoy their carbs guilt-free by adjusting the way they're prepared, an expert says.
In a podcast hosted by Dr Ruby Aujla, expert Neetu Bajikal said: “I want people to eat starchy vegetables like potatoes with the skin on. Potatoes are a great source of nutrition and help keep you full. Ideally, if you want to cook potatoes, put them in the fridge and then reheat them.”
“This increases the resistant starch, so blood sugar levels don’t spike,” she added, adding that this method may limit the weight gain associated with eating it.
The gynecologist urged people (especially those with hormonal disorders) to follow a varied diet. According to Dr. Bajekal, we should “move towards a whole plant-based diet.”
In closing, Bajekal offered some advice for those looking to adopt a new diet or lifestyle. She suggested that rather than making a hasty, radical change, it is better to gradually adapt to the new regimen, over a period of “3 to 6 months.”
Educational.
