According to FIA, the arrest of the suspects wanted by the Punjab Police was carried out as a result of a joint strategy of Interpol Islamabad with Interpol Abu Dhabi.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) of Pakistan has said on Thursday that 9 suspects wanted in serious crimes have been arrested from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a special operation with the help of Interpol.
The FIA said in a statement that 'the arrest of the accused was carried out as a result of a joint strategy of Interpol Islamabad with Interpol Abu Dhabi and the arrested accused were wanted by the Punjab Police.'
According to the statement, the arrested accused include Irfan Asghar, Farhan Nazakat, Samar Abbas, Najibullah, Saddam Hussain, Muhammad Rafiq, Muhammad Saqib, Muhammad Usman and Tariq Mehmood.
Cases were registered against the accused under the provisions of murder and attempted murder.
According to FIA: 'Accused Tariq Mehmood was wanted by Punjab Police for the last 14 years while a case was registered against accused Muhammad Rafiq in 2011.
Accused Najibullah was killed in 2014 while accused Saddam Hussain escaped abroad in 2018. Cases against other arrested accused were registered during 2020 to 2023.
According to the FIA, among the arrested suspects, Sialkot police wanted three and Dera Ghazi Khan police wanted two while Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Pakpattan and Bhakkar police wanted one each.
The statement said that the accused had fled abroad after killing and were arrested from different areas of the UAE.
According to FIA: 'A team has been dispatched to transfer the accused from UAE to Pakistan and the arrested accused will be handed over to Punjab Police authorities at Lahore Airport.'
