We all experience hair loss naturally, as humans lose between 50 to 100 hairs per day, which are replaced by new hair, but it can become worrying when we notice increasing hair loss.
Dr. Amir Khan, a popular general practitioner on social media, says there are many underlying causes of excessive hair loss, including hormonal problems, such as hypothyroidism or menopausal symptoms, iron deficiency, and autoimmune or skin diseases.
Dr. Khan says that in addition to identifying the underlying cause of hair loss and providing appropriate medication, he also provides some nutritional advice to his patients to help promote healthy and healthy hair growth.
“There is no single food that can fix your hair growth,” he stresses. “But eating a balanced diet rich in proteins, vitamins, and minerals may help promote hair growth.”
Dr. Khan revealed 4 foods that can help prevent hair loss, although he said more research is needed.
1. Eggs
“Eggs may help,” says Dr. Khan. “They contain high levels of a protein that hair is primarily made of, called biotin, which is essential for hair protein, keratin. Eggs also contain zinc and selenium, which can support healthy hair growth.”
2. Berries
Berries are a great choice for your hair, says the GP, thanks to their health benefits. “They contain vitamin C, which is needed to produce collagen, which can strengthen your hair, and lots of antioxidants that can help protect your hair from damage,” explains Khan.
3. Dark green leafy vegetables
While not everyone loves this, it's good for your health and your hair. Dr. Khan says this food group "contains folic acid, iron, vitamin A, and vitamin C, all of which can support healthy hair growth."
4. Fish and nuts
“Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish like salmon and mackerel and plant-based versions found in walnuts and flaxseeds can also support hair growth,” says Dr. Khan.
“Nuts and seeds also contain vitamin E, which is thought to be a healthy antioxidant for hair,” he adds.
