U.S. Capitol police arrested Jewish activists protesting U.S. military support for Israel inside the building on Tuesday, a day before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was scheduled to address the chamber.
At the protest, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, demonstrators wore red T-shirts reading “Not in our name” and “Jews say stop arming Israel.” Some held signs reading “Ceasefire now” and “Let Gaza live.”
The protests were scheduled to coincide with Netanyahu's visit, during which he will meet with President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
“Over the past nine months, we have witnessed countless atrocities in Gaza, committed in our name and funded by our government,” Jewish Voice for Peace said in a social media post. The group said about 300 protesters were arrested out of 400 who took part in the protest.
