At the beginning of 2024, 32 percent of Myanmar's population will be in poverty, according to a June 12 report by the World Bank.

This means that more than 17 million people in Myanmar, which has a population of more than 54 million, are living in poverty.

Another 30 percent are at risk of falling into poverty, according to the World Bank.

Inflation and unemployment are expected to continue to rise, and poverty will worsen, the World Bank said.

Displacement and migration Decades of efforts to reduce poverty have been wasted due to job losses and income declines, the World Bank's Myanmar, Mariam Shaman, the resident director for Cambodia and Laos pointed out.

The World Bank also said that in more than three years of the coup, the number of poor people has increased by seven million compared to before the covid epidemic.

General Min Aung Hlaing, chairman of the military council, said at the military council meeting on June 7 that the country's economy is declining because of the all-round attack.
