Director of European Affairs at the US National Security Council, Michael Carpenter, revealed that the volume of aid provided to Ukraine since February 2022 has reached $81 billion.

“The United States has already allocated a lot of money to Ukraine,” Carpenter said in an interview with the Ukrinform agency in response to a question about whether the Washington administration will send a new request to Congress for new aid to Kiev. “The United States has already allocated a lot of money to Ukraine. We recently adopted a law on additional financing. We must remember Also, we have provided about $81 billion to support Ukraine since the beginning of the war, and this is a lot, and among this aid, $51 billion is military aid.”

Carpenter also stressed that he cannot disclose what will happen next year, as the result of the presidential elections that will be held in the United States in November will affect Washington’s decisions.

According to him, the United States is currently focusing on increasing its capabilities to meet Ukraine's needs on the battlefield, adding: “We realize that one of the main needs now is air defense, so we spend a lot of time communicating with our partners and allies about how to enhance the effectiveness of Ukraine's air defense in present time".

Earlier,  US President Joe Biden signed an initiative approved by Congress to finance the US government in the current fiscal year.  This package includes allocating $13.6 billion for humanitarian, military and economic aid to Ukraine, and in particular, providing it with air defense systems.
