The Organization of Islamic Cooperation “strongly” condemned several statements by Argentine President Javier Milley, on various occasions, “linking terrorism to Islam.”

The organization said in a statement: “The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation followed with concern and dissatisfaction what was repeated by Argentine President Javier Milli, on various occasions, regarding statements offensive to Islam, Muslims, and the ancient Islamic civilization, by his use of hostile expressions regarding “Islamic terrorism” and “Islamic fanaticism.” He linked terrorism to Islam.

The statement added, "The General Secretariat of the Organization strongly condemns such statements by the head of a country with which the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation have traditional relations of friendship and cooperation and common economic interests. These statements are inconsistent with the mutual respect that characterizes the relations between the Argentine people and the Islamic peoples, and are inconsistent with... The respect that is expected from heads of state and their officials for religions and the beliefs of peoples stresses its principled position that rejects terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and categorically rejects linking terrorism with Islam or any religion.

The statement concluded: “In this context, the General Secretariat of the Organization renews its call to confront all manifestations of hatred, intolerance, negative stereotyping and defamation of the image of religions and to promote dialogue between religions, civilizations and cultures and implement the relevant resolutions of the General Assembly and the United Nations Human Rights Council regarding defamation of the image of religions, especially the Assembly’s resolution.” General Assembly issued on March 15, 2022, in which it declared March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.”
