Brushing your teeth twice a day, along with using mouthwash and flossing regularly, is essential for maintaining oral hygiene.

However, it's easy to overlook the best hygiene steps to protect tooth enamel.

In this regard, the famous hygiene expert on TikTok, Madame Sweat, shared her most important tips for ideal dental health in a recent video clip (The Golden Rule).

Sweet advised: “You should wait 30 minutes after dinner to brush your teeth, because while you eat, there is a lot of acid in the mouth, so the enamel is soft.”

“So, wait until the enamel hardens again,” she adds. “Then brush your teeth.”

She also warned against eating any snacks after brushing your teeth, as they may lead to softening of the enamel again.

Enamel is the hard, shiny, white outer layer of the tooth, which covers the underlying tissue. It is also the hardest substance in the human body, stronger than bone, and is composed almost entirely of minerals that give enamel its strength so that it can protect teeth from damage, and help maintain their bright, white, and healthy appearance, according to health experts.

Despite its hardness, enamel needs care, because it forms only a thin layer on each tooth. When enamel wears away, it exposes the inner layers to the foods and drinks you consume, increasing its susceptibility to decay.
