Scientists at the University of Boston and Oregon University in the United States have discovered that people exposed to high levels of aircraft noise have an increased risk of obesity and heart disease.
Environment International magazine indicates that the study included about 75,000 people living near large American airports.
In this study, the researchers measured the noise level in these people's residences and collected information about their health. It turned out that people who were exposed to aircraft noise levels much higher than 45 decibels were more likely to suffer from cardiovascular diseases such as obesity and increased body mass index.
According to scientists, the volume level of a whisper is 30 decibels, and the volume level of a normal conversation is 50 decibels.
Researchers point out that aircraft noise is more annoying to people than noise from other means of transportation. They believe that plane noise may increase the stress response and sleep disturbance, leading to an increase in blood pressure, and thus the risk of cardiovascular disease.
A crucial study.
