NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that Ukraine will determine the terms of peace with Russia, and that the alliance will not do this for it.
Stoltenberg said during a press conference at the end of the meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels on Thursday: “We will not decide here at our headquarters what conditions Ukraine will make peace with.”
He added: "This matter will be determined by Ukraine itself."
Stoltberg welcomed the international conference on Ukraine that will be held in Switzerland soon, saying, "We support the peace settlement and welcome the participation of a large number of countries, including members of NATO."
He continued: "We know that what is happening behind the negotiating table is linked to events on the battlefield. If we want a peaceful solution, as a result of the negotiations, that guarantees the preservation of Ukraine as a democratic state in Europe, then we must provide military assistance."
It is noteworthy that the meeting of defense ministers of NATO countries in Brussels on Thursday discussed additional military aid to Ukraine, especially strengthening Ukrainian air defenses.
