Stoltenberg: Putin's visit to North Korea highlights the global importance of security

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to North Korea underscores the "global importance" of NATO's security and the need for partnership with Asia.

The Secretary General of NATO noted, "For us, this visit confirms that security is not of regional importance, but rather of global importance."

In this regard, according to Stoltenberg, NATO seeks to develop relations with allies such as Australia, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand.

The media indicated that Pyongyang Airport would receive a Russian delegation, and the North Korean capital was decorated with national flags and the flags of the Russian Federation, in addition to welcoming banners such as “Hello, Putin.”

On the morning of June 18, President Putin headed to Yakutia on a business trip, and after his visit to the Russian region, his big trip to the Far East will begin. On the evening of the same day, the President will go on a state visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, and the next day to Vietnam.

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin ratified a draft agreement for a comprehensive strategic partnership with North Korea, which will be signed in his upcoming meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

He explained that the document defines the prospects for continuing bilateral cooperation, taking into account "the relations between the two countries in recent years, whether in the field of international politics or in the economic field, including security issues," stressing that it is "not directed against a third country."
