South Korea promises billions in investment in Africa

Billions of dollars in aid and support for investment in Africa is the promise made Tuesday by Yoon Suk Yeol. While his country welcomes at least 48 delegations from the continent as part of the first South Korea-Africa summit.

Seoul intends to strengthen its cooperation with Africa, particularly in the fields of minerals and technologies. The climate is also on his agenda.

''In order to respond to climate change, participating leaders and members agreed to form a climate finance structure that reflects Africa's need to respond to the threat. In addition, South Korea has decided to develop projects such as "K-Ricebelt", which can help strengthen Africa's food self-sufficiency. '', explained the South Korean president.

Current President of the African Union, the Mauritanian Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, expressed his optimism for a lasting partnership.

''I am convinced that our summit has laid the foundations for an innovative, win-win and sustainable partnership, based on solidarity and trust in our collective intelligence,'' declared Mohamed Ould Ghazouani.

Trade with African countries currently accounts for less than 2% of South Korea's total imports and exports.
