Senegal: Diomaye Faye in France to meet Macron

The Senegalese President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, arrived in France to take part in the Global Forum for Vaccine Sovereignty and Innovation. During this day of Thursday June 20, he will also have lunch with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.

This meeting between the two heads of state is crucial and should help lay the foundations for the future relationship between the two countries.

Member of the Pastef party, alongside Ousmane Sonko, the current Prime Minister, Bassirou Diomaye Faye has always been critical of the collaboration deemed unequal between France and Senegal. He intends to write a new story, based on “mutual respect” .

Main subjects of discord between Senegal and France, the FCFA considered as a brake on national development and the French military presence in the country. There are currently 350 French soldiers on Senegalese soil.

Elected last March, Bassirou Diomaye Faye made a point of making his first visits to his African neighbors: Ivory Coast, Guinea, Nigeria, etc. Nine trips, made in two months, before going to France. A way for him to be part of the break with the previous political system.
