On Saturday, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attempts of the Israeli authorities to undermine the efforts of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), by classifying it as a “terrorist” organization.
The Foreign Ministry indicated in its statement that the policies of the Israeli authorities towards UNRWA aim to lift the immunity of its employees who are carrying out their duty to alleviate the severity of the humanitarian catastrophe that the Palestinian people are going through.
She stressed that Israel, as an occupying state, must abide by international law and international humanitarian law and stop obstructing the work of international organizations.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees warned earlier today that Israel's recent escalation of its campaign against the agency aims to "eliminate us and liquidate the Palestinian refugee issue," and confirmed that it will not vacate its headquarters in Jerusalem.
UNRWA spokesman Adnan Abu Hasna said in an interview with RT that Israel’s designation of UNRWA as a terrorist organization is a dangerous development that indicates dangerous intentions related to stopping the agency’s work in Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem, pointing out that it has never before in the history of the United Nations classified an international organization as a terrorist organization. .
The Israeli authorities had previously asked UNRWA to vacate its main headquarters in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, east of Jerusalem, within 30 days due to “using the land without the approval of the Israel Lands Department.”
It is worth noting that the Israeli Knesset approved, in the first reading, the classification of the United Nations Agency, UNRWA, as a “terrorist organization . ”
The draft law stipulates the cessation of all communications and relations between Israel, its citizens, and the agency, as well as the closure of its offices in Israel.
