Russia and the Sultanate of Oman are discussing the establishment of a collective security system in the Gulf region

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Omani Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Khalifa Al Harithi discussed the prospects for establishing a collective security system and sustainable development in the Gulf region.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the two sides reviewed the main issues on the international and regional agenda, focusing on “the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone, Syria, Sudan, Yemen and the Red Sea.”

The ministry said in a statement: “The interest of Moscow and Muscat in finding effective solutions to resolve the acute crises in the Middle East and North Africa region was emphasized exclusively by political and diplomatic means based on taking into account the legitimate interests of all parties concerned.”

Reference was also made to the establishment of a reliable collective security system in the Gulf region and sustainable development, based on the principles of mutual respect and good neighbourliness.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the deputy ministers also discussed issues of further strengthening Russian-Omani relations, including enhancing trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

In a related context, the head of the consular department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexei Klimov, proposed the complete cancellation of tourist visas with the Sultanate of Oman, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and six other countries.
