Putin : What is happening in Gaza is not a war, but an extermination of civilians

Yesterday, Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Israel of carrying out "comprehensive genocide" against civilians in the Gaza Strip, and praised the efforts of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians.

During a meeting held in the Russian city of St. Petersburg with representatives of international news agencies, Putin said, “What is happening now in Gaza, does not resemble war at all, but rather is a kind of comprehensive extermination of civilians.”

The Russian President affirmed Russia's position on the Palestinian issue, "supporting the two-state solution, a Palestinian state and an Israeli state," noting that Moscow recognized the Palestinian state during the Soviet era. He also praised the efforts of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in this regard, saying that they are "tangible" in alleviating the suffering of Palestinians.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza that has left tens of thousands martyred and wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of children and the elderly.

In another context, Putin said that Russia “may carry out strikes” on countries that supply Ukraine with long-range weapons through third countries, warning that Russian military doctrine stipulates the use of “all types” of weapons “if the country’s existence is threatened.”

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine, stipulating to end it that Kiev abandon plans to join military entities, most notably NATO, which prompted capitals, led by Washington, to impose severe economic sanctions on Moscow.
