When you feel sleepy and tired almost every day during most hours of the day, it may be a sign that something is wrong with your body, according to health experts.
If you feel completely tired, despite getting plenty of sleep, you may be unknowingly suffering from an illness, or perhaps a vitamin deficiency.
Here are lifestyle factors that can affect your energy levels:
- Not exercising enough, or exercising too much to the point of feeling exhausted.
- Excessive phone use. Excessive exposure to bright light can disrupt your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle and affect the quality of your sleep, because it can interfere with the production of melatonin, the hormone responsible for inducing sleep.
- Absence of beneficial energy elements in your diet, with excessive consumption of processed foods and sugar.
- Dehydration and lack of drinking water, which leads to symptoms of fatigue, decreased alertness, and poor concentration.
- Staying up very late at night.
- Drink coffee before bed.
Health experts also listed health factors that can affect energy levels, which are:
- Anemia, or iron deficiency (causing shortness of breath, dizziness, pale skin, and fatigue).
- Hypothyroidism.
- Anxiety or depression.
- Menstrual cycle, including hormonal changes, bloating, and sleep disturbances.
- Sleep apnea, which can cause you to stop breathing repeatedly throughout the night, putting extra stress on your heart.
- Possible side effects of some medications.
