Nigeria: Government asks unions to call off strike call
-
The government is asking unions to reconsider their decision to start an indefinite strike from Monday June 3, 2024.

In an interview with our Punch colleagues, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed, declared that the interest of the masses should be the absolute priority of the unions and that a strike was not the solution to the current negotiations.

The country's two main unions announced a walkout due to disagreement with the authorities over a new minimum wage.

The Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are refusing the sixty thousand naira offered by the government and have indicated that they will continue the strike if their demands are not met.

Another demand from the unions is the cancellation of the increase in electricity prices which took place a little over a month ago.

Costs more than doubled for some consumers in April.
