Nigeria: At least 18 killed, dozens injured in series of suicide bombings

At least 18 people were killed and dozens more injured in multiple suicide bombings that hit the town of Gwoza in northeastern Nigeria's Borno state, local rescue services said in a statement.

Borno State Emergency Management Authority Director General Barkindo Seidu said that suspected female suicide bombers separately attacked a wedding, a funeral and a hospital, killing and wounding several people in Gwoza town.

Sido added that 18 people were confirmed killed, including children, young people and a pregnant woman. He continued, "The extent of the injuries ranged from abdominal lacerations to skull fractures and limb fractures," while no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Boko Haram and its splinter faction, the Islamic West Africa Province, are among the most active armed groups in Borno, a large rural area.
