The follow-up committee for the national and Islamic forces in Gaza considered that Israel’s occupation of the Philadelphia axis and the Rafah crossing had turned Gaza into a large prison in a move that would destroy the population presence in the city of Rafah.
The committee said in a statement: “During its meeting held today, Saturday, June 1, 2024, the Follow-up Committee for National and Islamic Forces reviewed the repercussions of the Zionist enemy’s occupation of the Egyptian-Palestinian border in the city of Rafah (Philadelphia axis) and the Rafah crossing, and the disastrous effects that this aggression will have on Egyptian national security and security.” Joint efforts and the safety of the border region, as the resistance battle against the enemy forces present in the axis will be at the gates of sister Egypt.”
The committee confirmed that it considers "the occupation of the Philadelphia axis and the Rafah crossing to have turned the Strip into a large prison, and that it is a step that will destroy the population presence in the city of Rafah, where the population density is concentrated along the axis."
The committee called on "the Egyptian leadership to invest all the tools of national power that the Arab Republic of Egypt possesses, with its historical and Arab weight, in pressuring the occupation to withdraw from the axis and stop its aggression against our people."
It also "called on the international community to put pressure on the occupation and oblige it to implement the recent decisions of the International Court of Justice related to the occupation of Rafah and the Rafah crossing, which require a complete withdrawal from the city and the immediate opening of the crossing for the entry of humanitarian aid and its return to work as it was before its occupation."
Last Wednesday, the Israeli army announced that it had imposed full control along the Philadelphia axis by having its forces present in the area and subjecting it to firing range.
On May 24, the International Court of Justice, the highest judicial body of the United Nations, issued an order calling on Israel to immediately stop its military attack and any other action in Rafah, in a historic ruling that is likely to increase international pressure on Tel Aviv after more than seven months of war. in Gaza.
Israel has continued its war on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, and the Israeli army launches dozens of air strikes and artillery shelling daily, causing thousands of deaths and injuries among civilians, amid a catastrophic situation caused by the siege and the displacement of more than 95% of the Strip’s population.
