After his death in a plane crash last week, Vice President Saulos Chilima was buried on Monday in Ntcheu, his hometown.
A moment of reflection for the late vice-president Saulos Chilima. Thousands of Malawians attended a funeral ceremony at the national stadium to pay their respects as the day was declared a public holiday in Malawi. His coffin, draped in the Malawian flag, was brought in by a guard of honor.
Elected vice president in 2014, Saulos Chilima, 51, was very popular, especially among young people. His plane crash claimed the lives of eight other people. The aircraft was unable to land due to bad weather before disappearing from radar.
President Lazarus Chakwera promised to provide clarification on the causes of the tragedy and requested help from foreign governments to carry out the investigation.
