Russian Islam Makhachev retained his lightweight title in the UFC Mixed Martial Arts Federation by defeating American Dustin Poirier in a fight between them today, Sunday, in the “UFC 302” event.
The main fight of the event was held in New York City, USA, and ended in the fifth round with Makhachev winning after subduing his opponent, Poirier.
This is the third time that the Russian has successfully defended the lightweight champion belt.
On the other hand, this loss is the third for Poirier in his attempts to become the UFC lightweight champion.
Makhachev, 32 years old, achieved his 26th victory in his career against one defeat.
