Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei has reached 900 million active consumer devices running the company's Harmony OS operating system, dpa reported.
The company announced that sales of its premium devices increased by 72% during the first five months of 2024.
Richard Yu, president of Huawei's consumer business group, told a developer conference in Dongguan, China: "No one can turn off the starlight in the sky. Today, the future of the Harmony OS system has been determined." "Let's enjoy our glittering galaxy."
One notable reason for the increase in sales was the launch of the Mate 60 Pro smartphone last September.
Huawei reported a profit of 19.6 billion yuan ($2.7 million) in the first quarter, up 564 percent from a year earlier. Sales during the same period rose 37 percent to 178.8 billion yuan.
During the meeting, Yu said the company is preparing to launch its new Mate 70 successor phone to the Mate 60 Power later this year.
U.S. sanctions have denied Huawei access to modern U.S. technologies for several years. As a result, Huawei smartphones no longer play a role outside of China, although the company overtook South Korea's Samsung to become the largest smartphone company in 2020.
