How does running affect mental health?

Dr. Kirill Antonov, a rehabilitation specialist, points out that since 2016, the world has been celebrating World Running Day on the first Wednesday of June.

According to the doctor, running improves sleep, has a positive effect on mental health and also strengthens bones.

He says: “This sport also strengthens the work of the heart and blood vessels, improves blood circulation and increases lung volume. Regular running can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as high arterial blood pressure, myocardial infarction and stroke.”

In addition, running helps release endorphins, which work to reduce emotional stress, relieve anxiety, and improve mood.

Antonov points out that practicing running incorrectly may have a negative impact on a person’s health.

For her part, Dr. Olga Lankina, an expert at the Hemotest Laboratory, points out that running is a good exercise for the heart and blood vessels - which is why aerobic exercise is called heart exercise.

It should be noted that aerobic exercise is characterized by the person performing low-intensity physical exercises, yet a lot of oxygen-saturated blood flows to the muscles. The heart also beats faster, pumps blood more actively and supplies the cells with oxygen.
