The Group of Seven countries welcomed the conference on Ukraine scheduled to be held in Switzerland, and pledged to mobilize the greatest possible international support for the so-called “Zelensky formula for peace.”
The final statement issued by the G7 summit in Italy, on Friday, said: “We welcome the Ukraine peace summit planned to be held in Switzerland on June 15 and 16 in order to establish a framework for peace based on international law, the United Nations Charter and its principles, and with respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.” .
The seven countries affirmed: “We will continue to work to mobilize the broadest possible international support for the basic principles of President Zelensky’s peace formula and its goals.”
She added, "Our ultimate goal remains a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace," stressing that she will continue to support Ukraine "as long as necessary."
It is noteworthy that Russia had previously announced that it would reject any outcomes of the conference to be held in Switzerland, noting that a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine must take the “new reality” on the ground into account.
Bridging gaps amidst differing stances is crucial for sustainable peace.
