On Wednesday, the Italian Financial Guard revealed a fraud committed by a resident of the southern province of Reggio Calabria, who submitted false sick certificates over a period of 3 years that allowed him to work only 9 days.
The Financial Guard explained in an official statement that the man worked in 3 educational institutions in the province of Pordenone in the north of the country, and as a representative of the administrative, technical and support staff, he followed the same method every time.
The statement stated, “After answering a call from the school, the accused would come to the secretariat and sign the employment contract, and after 3 days of service, he would return to his home in the province of Reggio Calabria, and calmly engage in other activities by sending false medical certificates issued by relevant specialists.”
The statement indicated that in this way he not only received 100% of his due payments, but also avoided tax audits and even received points for the salary increase.
In total, with the help of 5 complicit doctors, the man obtained 40,000 euros, and while taking sick leave, he worked as a long-term car rental broker, moving in Italy and abroad.
According to the Italian authorities, 300,000 euros were confiscated from the accused’s home after a search warrant issued by the Pordenone prosecution, in addition to a set of documents related to double work.
Informative.
