Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas warned of the occupation’s efforts to end power, and European Union Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell confirmed that Israel has a will to annex the West Bank, following statements by the Israeli Finance Minister of his intention to make the West Bank part of Israel.
Yesterday, Monday, Abbas accused the Israeli government of seeking to “end the Palestinian Authority, re-impose the occupation, and liquidate the rights of the Palestinian people,” warning in a speech during a meeting with the Liberation Organization in the city of Ramallah of the danger to which the Palestinian cause is exposed, “in light of the occupation continuing its war of extermination.” to which our people are exposed.”
Abbas added that this is happening “in conjunction with the theft and piracy of Palestinian clearing funds and the confiscation of these Palestinian funds with the aim of undermining the position of the Palestinian National Authority,” and pointed out that it comes “in harmony with the statements of the occupation government aimed at ending the authority, reimposing occupation and settler colonialism, and liquidating the rights of our people.”
In the same context, the European Union representative for foreign affairs, Josep Borrell, said in a press conference yesterday, Monday, following the meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Luxembourg: “It appears that there is a clear Israeli will to annex the West Bank little by little, and this matter will not lead to peace,” adding: “It has not led to peace.” We have reached a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip despite the passage of 3 weeks since the proposal, which is supported by the international community.”
Earlier yesterday, Monday, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced that he intends to make the occupied West Bank “an integral part of Israel,” adding during a meeting of his far-right “Religious Zionism” party: “I intend to make Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) an integral part.” From Israel,” according to the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz.
The United Nations considers settlement in the occupied territories illegal, warns that it undermines the chances of addressing the conflict according to the principle of a two-state solution (Palestinian and Israeli), and has been calling for decades to stop it, to no avail.
In conjunction with its devastating war on Gaza since October 7, the Israeli occupation army expanded its incursions and operations into the West Bank, leaving 553 Palestinian martyrs, including 133 children, in addition to about 5,200 wounded, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
While that war, which enjoys absolute American support, left nearly 123,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of dozens of children in the Gaza Strip. Israel continues the war, ignoring UN Security Council resolutions to stop it immediately, and orders to stop it immediately. The International Court of Justice ordered an end to the Rafah invasion, and to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
