“We will find a lot of interesting things on Jupiter’s moons,” Musk said on the X Network (formerly Twitter), commenting on a photo of Callisto, the largest of Jupiter’s four moons.
It is noteworthy that Jupiter is the fifth planet of the solar system. The average distance between it and the sun is about 779 million kilometers. The diameter of the planet at the equator is about 143 thousand kilometers. Its size is approximately 317 times greater than the size of Earth, and its mass is 2.5 times greater than the mass of all the planets in the solar system combined. The giant planet was named after the supreme god in Greco-Roman mythology. Its first study using a telescope was conducted in 1610 by the Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei, who discovered the largest of Jupiter's four moons, and later named them Ganymede, Europa, Io, and Callisto.
In the fall of 2024, the United States plans to launch the Europa Clipper probe in order to conduct a detailed study of Jupiter's moon Europa, and the probe is expected to arrive by 2030.
China also plans to send the Tianwen-4 mission in 2030 to explore Jupiter and its moon Callisto.
Work is underway to study Jupiter in Russia within the framework of the Laplace-P project, and with the help of the Laplace-P1 orbiter, it is planned to conduct remote studies of the planet and its moon Ganymede, and the Laplace-P2 lander will be designed for this purpose.
