Egypt is reviewing the idea of ​​producing electricity from wastewater

The Egyptian Cabinet reviewed an article on the Oil Price website that indicated that the University of Washington announced its success in producing biogas based on solid waste resulting from wastewater treatment.

The ministers’ information was reported during a new issue of the Industrial Horizons magazine that, according to a report issued by the Waste Management magazine, a research team at Washington State University tested a new technology for treating wastewater, adding an additional step to typical treatments by using high-pressure steam containing oxygen to break up sewage sludge, as They indicated that they are able to convert more than 85% of organic matter into biogas, which can be used to produce electricity, converted into renewable natural gas (RNG) for the natural gas grid, or for domestic use.

In a separate context, social media users circulated news about the government halting the plan to reduce electricity loads throughout the Eid holiday period to provide relief to citizens in light of the high temperature, which was not announced, according to an informed source at the Ministry of Electricity.

The source explained that the load reduction plan is continuing according to what was announced by the Council of Ministers, and that there are no instructions yet regarding stopping electricity load reduction during the Eid holiday period, which ends on June 22, 2024.
