Naval News, a website specializing in military affairs, reported that Brazil is developing new warships for its army's navy.

The site stated in a post: “At the Thyssenkrupp Estaleiro Brasil Sul shipyard in the state of Santa Caterina in Brazil, the process of manufacturing a new Tamandare-class military ship for the Brazilian Navy recently began.”

According to the website, the Tamandare frigate development program is considered one of the most important innovative ship development projects for the Brazilian Navy. TKMS began manufacturing the first of these ships in March 2023, and recently began the process of manufacturing the second ship, and by December 2029 the Brazilian Navy should have 3 Tamandare type ships have been delivered.

The Tamandare frigates are considered upgraded versions of the German MEKO A100 frigates. These frigates are supposed to have high combat power and be used in patrol missions, surveillance missions, protection of maritime areas, and escort missions for military and civilian ships.

The length of each of the new Tamandare ships is 107.2 meters, and its water displacement is 3,455 tons. These ships will also be equipped with MBDA's Sea Ceptor and MM40 Exocet air defense systems, 76 mm cannons, and 12.7 mm machine guns.
