Wolverhampton FC had submitted a proposal calling for the abolition of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology as of next season.
The proposal did not receive the required number of votes, as the result of the vote was nineteen votes rejecting the cancellation of the use of video technology, compared to one vote for approval.
In order to cancel video technology, a vote of 14 out of 20 Premier League clubs was required.
The English Premier League has suffered from increasing pressure regarding the need to improve video technology, which has been implemented since the beginning of the season (2019-2020).
It was also recommended, at the annual general meeting today, Thursday, to develop the “VAR” technology and improve its use as of next season, and to use the semi-automated offside technology as of next fall to reduce cases of delay in play, and reduce the number of arbitration cases in which “VAR” is used. .
The Premier League also confirmed that video technology decisions will be announced on the field, as happened during the 2023 Women’s World Cup, with the match referee explaining the VAR decision to the fans on the field.
It aims to improve accuracy and transparency.
