Washington has expressed its readiness to provide the necessary support to Israel if a comprehensive war breaks out between it and the Lebanese Hezbollah, without deploying American forces on the ground, according to a report by the American CNN network.
CNN said that Israeli officials, including Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer and National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi, participated in a series of meetings during their visit to Washington this week, with officials from the administration of US President Joe Biden.
An American official revealed that the Biden administration made clear this week that it would provide Israel with the security assistance it needs if an all-out war broke out between it and Hezbollah, although the United States would not deploy American forces on the ground in such a scenario.
A previous CNN report revealed concerns among American officials about the efficiency of Israeli air defense systems, including Iron Dome, in the event of a war against Hezbollah, while an American official confirmed that the support that Israel will need most is additional air defense systems and renovations to Iron Dome. , which will be provided by the United States.
A senior Biden administration official said that US and Israeli officials discussed in meetings this week potential “out-of-the-ordinary ways” to try to “lower the temperature” along the so-called Blue Line that separates Lebanon and Israel.
Since October 8, 2023, Palestinian and Lebanese factions in Lebanon, including Hezbollah, have exchanged daily bombardments with the Israeli army, resulting in hundreds killed and wounded, most of them on the Lebanese side. The factions in Lebanon say they stand in solidarity with Gaza, which has been exposed to an Israeli war since October 7 that has left more than 123,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, in addition to thousands of missing people.
It underscores delicate diplomacy.
