The former Director General of Lebanese General Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, said that the occurrence of a comprehensive war is unlikely, pointing to the reality of the Israeli army and Washington’s refusal to expand the scope of the conflict to a regional war.
Major General Abbas Ibrahim received in his office in Beirut the Deputy Special Envoy of the United Nations to Syria, Najat Rushdi, where the developments in the file of displaced Syrians and how to address it politically and humanitarianly were presented.
The importance of strengthening the political solution and addressing the crises stemming from displacement suffered by host countries in the region, including Lebanon, was presented.
He also received the Brazilian ambassador to Lebanon, Tarcisio Costa, and discussed with him the issue of possible escalation in southern Lebanon .
During the meeting, Major General Ibrahim affirmed his position that “a comprehensive war is unlikely,” based on “the reality of the Israeli army and the United States’ refusal to expand the conflict, in addition to the fear that the crisis will turn into a comprehensive regional war.”
NBC News reported, citing sources, that the US Army is moving its forces near Lebanon and Israel to evacuate its citizens in the event of an escalation in the confrontation between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah.
The newspaper "Politico" also indicated, citing American intelligence information, that "a large-scale war between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah may occur during the next few weeks " if the Israeli side and the "Hamas" movement do not reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
