A former engineer at Meta Platforms filed a lawsuit against the company, accusing it of firing him because he tried to help fix errors that caused Palestinian posts to be blocked on the Instagram platform.
Today, Wednesday, Reuters quoted Firas Hamad, a Palestinian-American engineer who has worked on the machine learning team at Meta since 2021, as saying that the company is biased in the way it deals with content related to the Israeli war on Gaza.
Hamad filed the lawsuit against the social media giant in a California court on charges of “discrimination and terminating his service without legal basis” last February.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza, leaving more than tens of thousands martyred and wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly.
Meta must address allegations of bias and ensure fair content moderation.
