A doctor warns against some wrong habits in storing food

Russian doctor Ekaterina Baranova warned against some wrong habits that some people follow when storing food at home.

During a medical program on Russia TV, the doctor said: “Many people resort to washing wild fruits, berries and strawberries and storing them in the refrigerator in the summer. These fruits should be eaten immediately after washing, as when exposed to moisture and stored, they may become an incubator for bacteria and fungi.” The arrival of these organisms into our bodies may cause serious health consequences.”

As for some types of vegetables, such as broccoli, the doctor advises washing or sterilizing them before eating them or keeping them in the refrigerator. She indicated that the best way to sterilize such types of vegetables is to soak them for half an hour in a bowl containing approximately a liter of water, with a tablespoon of salt and a tablespoon added. A small amount of vinegar, and this method helps eliminate some microorganisms and worms that may be present on these foods.

The doctor pointed out the necessity of sterilizing the bags containing the food before storing them in the refrigerator, as these bags may have been contaminated with different types of bacteria or fungi during the packaging process or while keeping them in retail stores.
