Two Arab teams to the 2024 Intercontinental Cup, Details of the nascent tournament’s system and date

Several teams have reached the first edition of the Intercontinental Cup, which will be held annually under the auspices of FIFA, and the alternative to the Club World Cup, which will be held every 4 years instead of annually.

Yesterday, Saturday, 3 teams qualified for the Intercontinental Cup, starting with New Zealand's Auckland City.

Auckland City won the OFC Champions League title by defeating Tahitian Pirai (4-0) in the final.

The Emirati club Al Ain also reserved a place in the emerging tournament, after its landslide victory over its guest Yokohama Marinos of Japan (5-1) in the second leg of the final, to compensate for its loss in the first leg (1-2).

Also, Al-Ahly Club of Al-Masry qualified for the Intercontinental Cup, by defeating Esperance of Tunisia with a single goal, in the second leg of the final, after the first leg ended in a goalless draw.

Intercontinental Cup System:

The system of this tournament stipulates that there will be qualifiers between representatives of different continents, with the exception of Europe.

The first stage will witness a confrontation between Al-Ahly or Al-Ain with Auckland City, representing Oceania, according to the draw, noting that this match will be held at the stadium of the African or Asian champions.

The winner of this match will face the team that was not chosen in the draw, whether representing Asia or Africa, to determine who qualifies for the playoff stage.

As for the second stage, it will witness a confrontation between the South American champion and his counterpart from the North and Central American and Caribbean regions in one match, with the stadium being determined by lottery to determine who qualifies for the deciding stage.

The deciding stage will bring together the qualifiers from the first stage and the second stage, to determine the team that will play in the final against the representative of the European continent.

Intercontinental Cup final date:

The date of the playoff match that will bring together the winners from the first stage and the second stage will be next December 14.

The final match of the first updated edition of the Intercontinental Cup will be held in a neutral stadium on December 18.
