The General Administration of the National Guard in Tunisia reported that units of the Guard and the Sea Army are searching for 23 missing persons who participated in an irregular migration operation from the coast of Korba (northeast) and have lost contact with their families.
The Public Administration said in a report on Saturday that the maritime guidance in the Nabeul region, the Sahel region, pledged on May 17, 2024 to initiate a legal case according to the instructions of the Public Prosecution Office, “in order to participate in forming a consensus with the aim of leaving Tunisian territory by sea secretly.”
She confirmed that the unit undertaking the search, with the participation of public security units in Korba and the rapid intervention units in Nabeul, was able to identify 5 people involved in organizing the pass operation (including two women), arrest them, and include two people under investigation, including the organizer of the operation, whose brother participated in the pass operation, and the son of one of the two women who were taken. They were kept while he was among the missing, and the means of transportation they used for transportation were seized.
The General Administration of the National Guard indicated that the sailing operation took place on the night between May 3 and 4, 2024, and the families of the missing persons did not come forward to inform the Bani Khiar Maritime Center about the crossing operation until May 14 and 15, 2024, stressing that the matter is being followed up.
