The Japanese city administrations of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, victims of US nuclear bombs in 1945, have sent a protest to Washington over their recent nuclear warhead testing.
The text of the statement read: “This test contradicts the wishes of many people, including the survivors of the nuclear bombing. We call for the abandonment of nuclear weapons, and we stress that no one should try them again.”
He continued: "This test is unacceptable under any circumstances."
The Nuclear Security Administration of the US Department of Energy announced the success of a subcritical experiment in Nevada this week to monitor the status of US nuclear shipments .
The administration indicated in a statement that the experiment aims to "collect valuable information to support the safety, security, reliability, and effectiveness of American nuclear warheads without conducting experiments related to nuclear explosions."
She added that the experiment, which was carried out on May 14 in an underground laboratory in Nevada, took place “as expected,” noting that such experiments are not considered a violation of the nuclear test ban regime, as they do not include launching a supercritical chain reaction.
The statement stated that this was the 34th subcritical test of its kind, and that it fully complies with the standards of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.
