The European Commission publishes clarifications regarding the ban on Russian media

The European Commission has published some clarifications regarding restrictions on the work of some media outlets, including a ban on broadcasting by a number of Russian state media outlets.

The European Commission indicated in its clarifications that it will be possible for journalists to transmit excerpts from the materials of media organizations that are subject to restrictions, and to use that material “objectively” in order to put followers in a complete picture of the events.

She stressed that the use of these materials “should not lead to circumventing sanctions, which is considered prohibited.”

The European Commission called on citizens of European countries to inform national authorities or relevant bodies of the European Union of possible violations against the media.

On Friday, the European Union announced a ban on broadcasting a number of media outlets, including the "Novosti" agency, the Russian "Izvestia" and "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" newspapers, and the "Voice of Europe" radio station.
