Australia expressed its concern about Palestinian civilians as a result of the Israeli attack on the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, and announced that it had informed Tel Aviv of its rejection of the attack.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in a statement published on the government's official website on Thursday that the government's position is very clear regarding expanding the scope of Israeli attacks against Rafah.
Albanese explained: "We informed Israel once again that we are against the ground attack on Rafah, and we are concerned for the civilians living there."
On Monday morning, Tel Aviv announced the start of a military operation in Rafah, claiming that it was “limited in scope,” and issued warnings to 100,000 Palestinians to forcibly evacuate the east of the city and head to the Al-Mawasi area, southwest of the Strip.
The Israeli war on Gaza, which began on October 7, left tens of thousands of Palestinians martyred and wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly.
Israel continues the war despite the issuance of a resolution by the UN Security Council to stop the fighting immediately, and also despite the International Court of Justice demanding immediate measures to prevent acts of “genocide” and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
