Federal Council President and Vice Chancellor of Switzerland Andre Simonazzi died at the age of 55 while hiking in the mountains.
A press release published on the Swiss government website stated that the incident occurred last Friday.
The statement added: "Simonazzi loved to rest in the mountains. On Friday, he lost consciousness and died during one of his favorite trips."
Simonazzi is married with three children, and members of the Federal Council of Switzerland and the Federal Chancellor of Switzerland expressed their condolences on the death of their colleague.
