Civilians in El Fasher are already facing devastating levels of hunger, as aid convoys from the Chadian border post of Tiné are blocked.
Ms Leni Kinzli, WFP Spokesperson in Sudan, spoke to the press about the situation in El Fasher, North Darfur, and how conflict and limited access has caused devastating levels of hunger in the country : " Our calls for humanitarian access to conflict hotspots in Sudan have never been more crucial: WFP urgently needs unrestricted access and security guarantees to provide assistance to families who are struggling to survive amid devastating violence. We must be able to use the Adré border post and deliver aid across the front lines from Port Sudan in order to reach populations in. the entire Darfur region .
Over the past six weeks, WFP has provided emergency food and nutrition assistance to more than 300,000 people in North, West and Central Darfur using the Tiné and Adré border posts and a cross road from Port Sudan. All these accesses are now blocked.
As the humanitarian situation continues to worsen, necessary financial resources are slipping to 10% of the $2.6 billion required to meet needs in Sudan and neighboring countries.
